PSALM 127

Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain...Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; they will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

I can't wait!

The Lord has blessed us with the gift of bringing a child into this world. The past 8 weeks have been quite a rollercoaster. I have embraced feelings of joy and done everything I can to throw fear at the foot of the cross. The joy is so obviously from the Lord. The fear is so obviously not. I am not fearful of being unable to provide. I am not even fearful of having an unhealthy baby. The fear I have battled has been due to the overwhelming responsibility of showing this child what it means to love the Lord before he/she is able to do so on his/her own.

Train up a child in the way that he should go
Even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6

Yes, I realize this fear is nothing but sin. Yes, I understand it shows my lack of trust in the Lord. These are the very reasons I feel the need to confess it. John Piper once said, “Children know their parents before they know their God.” Wow. Well, how then shall we live? I know I am not responsible for my child’s salvation. Salvation comes from the Lord alone. Still, I (well, we, of course) have been charged with a mighty task.

Evil men and imposters will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, Knowing from whom you have learned them, And that from childhood you have known the sacred writings
Which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to Salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:13-15

I am to teach this child the writings of God’s Holy Word. These writings will provide the wisdom that will ultimately lead to his/her Salvation through faith. Wow. Again, how then shall we live? I will study. I will pray. I will learn from our parents and other wise elders. I will lean and depend on my husband, the spiritual leader of our household. I will cling to the cross.

I CAN’T WAIT!
