PSALM 127

Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain...Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; they will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

Get over it - and be a Proverbs 31 Woman already!

Nursery theme?  Nope, don't have one.  Colors?  Not really.  I have absolutely no confidence in my creative notions.  I would love to run with an idea, but spending money on "materialistic touches" makes me nervous.  Will I regret my choices?  Will Kyle not care for it?  Will we tire of it quickly?  I've thought about it so much it all just seems so unimportant compared to the blessing of the little girl who will be the most precious adornment in that nursery.  But truth be told making our house a home should be my joyful duty.  These hang ups...I need to GET OVER THEM!  They have led to procrastination and, in my opinion, a dull house.  I have been praying Proverbs 31 like crazy lately.  It has convicted me in so many wonderful ways.

~Will Kyle not like it = the heart of her husband trusts in her
~Spending money makes me nervous = she considers a field and buys it
~Will we tire of it quickly = she senses that her gain is good...smiles at the future
~Procrastination = she does not eat the bread of idleness

10An excellent wife, who can find?
For her worth is far above jewels.
11The heart of her husband trusts in her,
And he will have no lack of gain.
12She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.
13She looks for wool and flax
And works with her hands in delight.
14She is like merchant ships;
She brings her food from afar.
15She rises also while it is still night
And gives food to her household
And portions to her maidens.
16She considers a field and buys it;
From her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17She girds herself with strength
And makes her arms strong.
18She senses that her gain is good;
Her lamp does not go out at night.
19She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hands grasp the spindle.
20She extends her hand to the poor,
And she stretches out her hands to the needy.
21She is not afraid of the snow for her household,
For all her household are clothed with scarlet.
22She makes coverings for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.
24She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies belts to the tradesmen.
25Strength and dignity are her clothing,
And she smiles at the future.
26She opens her mouth in wisdom,
And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
27She looks well to the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.
28Her children rise up and bless her;
Her husband also, and he praises her, saying:
29"Many daughters have done nobly,
But you excel them all."
30Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.
31Give her the product of her hands,
And let her works praise her in the gates.

So I did it.  I finally ordered a rug to go in the nursery.  I still had Kyle pass off on it, but making a decision was liberating.  I know that probably sounds ridiculous, but it's a step.  We've had the big things in place for a while.  My sister is making the crib bedding out of a very sweet white piquet.  I've had an accent color in mind for a long time, but unfortunately there are no fabric stores here in Morgantown.  So today Ann Forrest was gracious enough to take a bagillion pictures with her cell phone in Forest Lake Fabric for me to say yes/no.  She went straight to the post office and mailed several possible swatches for the accent bows to go on the pickets and I'll MAKE A DECISION!  YES I WILL!

Setting up the crib

Crib and Chiffarobe

A few gadgets and gizmos...

So it's all just stuff - but it sure makes the anticipation lots of fun!  29 days until the due date.  Some say she'll be here a tad before the due date, I still say right on it or late.  The Lord only knows!  As much as I would love to know her Birthday, it's comforting to know that He is completely in control and there is nothing anyone can do to truly predict anything.

  1. Oh Victoria! How excited I am for you and Kyle! Because your priorities are right where God wants them, you will be truly blessed!
    I can't wait to see pics of your precious little Eliza! What an awesome mommy you will be!
    I am so very excited for your mom and dad, as well. I never dreamed how absolutely amazing it would be to become a grandparent. Tom and I are eating little Durham up and can't get enough of her! Ann Forrest will love being an aunt, too, as does Cameron!!!
    Hopefully, we can all arrange a playdate in the coming months when you're in Lexington!
    How fun would that be!
    Please know that Tom and I will be praying for you as the time draws near.
    Would love to see you!
    With love,
    Tricia Thain

  2. i remember being hesitant about decorating because i didn't want to be in this rental house for much longer. and painting and decorating would make it feel permanent. so i know the feeling. but, once i started putting little special touches to it, it was that much more special. now, i love spending time in her room :)
    can't wait to see ann forrest's handiwork!

  3. Your crib is gorgeous :o) If it makes you feel any better, Jack is almost 9 months old, and I still haven't finished his curtains or purchased a rug and lamp...I'm thinking of just waiting for the "big boy room"!
